WhatsApp error 131047: the 24-hour window closed
You tried to send a normal reply, but the customer's last message is more than 24 hours old. WhatsApp only allows free-form replies inside that window; after it, you have to start with an approved template.
Why it happens
Every time a customer messages your business, WhatsApp opens a 24-hour customer service window. Inside it you can send any message: text, images, product cards.
Once 24 hours pass without a new message from the customer, the window closes. Any non-template message you send then fails with error 131047.
How to fix it
- 01
Send a template
Pick an approved template that fits, for example a utility message about their order or a short follow-up.
- 02
Wait for their reply
As soon as the customer answers, a new 24-hour window opens and normal replies work again.
- 03
Reply faster next time
Answer inside the window, or let the AI agent reply first so customers don't wait overnight.
Questions, answered.
Does it cost anything to send the template?
Template messages are billed by Meta according to their category. Replies inside an open window are free.
Can I keep the window open forever?
No. It only renews when the customer sends a new message.
